Heart to Heart – The Song Exchange Project
The Zimbabwe expression “If you can walk, you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing” is a favorite of Roberta’s because it is her deeply held belief that singing, drumming and moving with others is not only fun, but profoundly healing. Returning from recent trips to Haiti and Cuba, Roberta will share how music deeply connects us to one another—heart-to-heart. Join us for this interactive service through song. You will walk away with songs that you can take out into the world.
Roberta Kirn (song leader, drummer, music educator, dancer) has immersed herself in music for her entire life. After majoring in dance at Dartmouth and Sarah Lawrence colleges, Roberta moved to New York City where she pursued a professional dance career. Moving to Martha’s Vineyard 30 years ago, Roberta continued her immersion in music by playing and singing with a drum ensemble, teaching music to Charter School students, and leading Community Sings for all ages. She has studied singing and song leading with song leaders Ysaye Barnwell, Nick Page, Melanie DeMore and Bobby McFerrin. Her annual Winter Concert and Community Sing welcomes in the season with Songs of Peace, Hope, and Light from around the world. Roberta’s mission is to inspire as many people as she can to sing in community, wherever and whenever possible!
